Social Justice |
“A community in which this universal charity reigns, is capable of surmounting all difficulties.” - Venerable Catherine McAuley “We must teach more by example than by word.” - Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. MacKillop College maintains a strong commitment to Social Justice. The College looks to Catholic social teaching, Jesus’ example and our founding Mercy and Josephite charisms as inspiration to ensure the equity, dignity and respect of all people, regardless of race, gender, religion or ethnicity. At MacKillop College, students are encouraged and provided with opportunities to work with compassion for justice in the world and to believe in their own potential to effect change. Every student at MacKillop College will be involved in social justice activities as part of their everyday life at the College. The College promotes students’ engagement in these activities as part of their Christian call to discipleship and encourages them to see the intrinsic rewards that come with supporting others. Students are invited and supported to engage in Social Justice activities at a variety of levels. These levels ensure that all students take part in service activities but are also able to take on greater levels of service as their social conscience develops. Whilst staff oversee and support these activities, students are given high levels of leadership in the organisation, advertisement and enacting of these activities as part of their involvement. Social justice involvement includes the following activities: |
