Student Technology Requirements |
In 2021, MacKillop College will be continuing its ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) program for all students. Under the BYOD program, students need to bring their own technological device for use during class time.
We are recommending students bring an Apple device. Having all students, staff and classrooms using a common platform has many advantages as they share similar instructions and procedures. After extensive experience using the Apple platform, we have also found the build quality, durability and battery life of these products suits the classroom environment very well.
All recent MacBook laptops are all able to perform the tasks required, with the 13-inch MacBook Air currently being the most cost-effective model for families to purchase. Laptops may be purchased via apple.com.au or sourced locally from Leading Edge Computers, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and Officeworks Online. Most of these retail outlets also provide interest free and extended finance options.
Minimum Specifications - Apple Laptops
The minimum specification 13-inch MacBook Air currently listed on Apple’s website: www.apple.com/au-hed/shop/buy-mac/macbook-air - with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of memory will be capable of performing all tasks required by students.
Software
Students will be given instructions on how to access the College Wi-Fi network, printers, personalised email, the Google-Suite, Office 365, Google Classroom and their digital texts as they commence their studies at the College.
Care and Support
Warranty: Accident, loss and breakage insurance are recommended as the College will not be responsible for the repair or replacement of devices. Parents may consider purchasing additional warranty (eg AppleCare) to reduce any future repair costs and factory hardware replacement.
Support: The College will provide minor troubleshooting and technical support during school time to assist students within the school environment.
